Saint Bede's Open House is a social group run by a body of volunteers and takes place in the church hall every Tuesday evening from 6.00pm until 8.00pm.
As well as regular bingo sessions followed by a quiz or other games we have regular forms of entertainment from visiting guests. To date we have had talks from a channel swimmer, we have flower arranging demonstrations, jewellery makers, as well as "keep fit from your seat" sessions and we recently hosted an evening when we were entertained by the Ashington Male Voice Choir.
The group also have several evenings during the year when we go out for meals to the local restaurants and we look forward to a yearly trip to Amble where we are made welcome in the church hall of The Sacred Heart and Saint Cuthbert Parish. This gives the opportunity to meet with people outside our own locality. The parishioners provide us with refreshments and join us in enjoying a fish supper from the local chip shop.
The Open House is a friendly welcoming place to spend a couple of hours every week, meet with new friends and you don't have to be a member of the church to attend.
There is a £3.00 admission for which everyone receives a variety of light refreshments, a raffle ticket and a book of 6 bingo tickets; extra books can be bought for an extra 20 pence each.
If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer or simply coming along to enjoy an evening out, you will be made very welcome.
You can simply turn up on a Tuesday evening or if you want further information about volunteering or joining the group you can contact Christine Priest on 01670 820646, mobile number 07929962813, and she will be happy to help.
